Above The Skies

Make good on your promise and give your significant other the sun, the moon, and the stars. Take a cue from the heavens and experience a higher love in the Hawaiian Islands:

Stargazing
Ascend to the top of 9,000-foot Mauna Kea for a stargazing party with Hawaii Forest and Trail. After traveling over desolate lava flows, rolling pastures, and rainforests, enjoy a private picnic dinner before heading to the summit, parkas in hand. An interpretive guide will explain the remarkable history of the Hawaiian skies while you enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. www.hawaii-forest.com

For the budget conscious, a free stargazing program is offered at Mauna Kea from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The program includes a documentary showing, followed by viewing opportunities and an employee guided star tour. www.ifa.hawaii.edu

Friday and Saturday evenings, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa offers a special Romance Tour of the Stars. This “couples only” event takes place on the rooftop of the hotel. Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries are served while couples view the stars through Hawaii’s only recreational telescope. www.maui.hyatt.com

Experience a night of stunning meteor showers and eclipses aboard a private 42-foot catamaran with Wild Side Specialty Tours. While sailing in the Pacific Ocean, let your eyes adjust to the darkness and enjoy the view of Oahu’s Waianae Coast by starlight. www.sailhawaii.com

Helicopters
In addition to underwater weddings, Beach Weddings Hawaii offers couples the option to get married aboard a helicopter. Couples can overlook the Kohala Coast or Kilauea Volcano as they exchange vows in the air. www.beachweddingshawaii.com

Hawaii Helicopter Tours offers an array of tours for visitors to Kauai, Maui, Oahu and Hawaii Island. Options include a nighttime tour of downtown Honolulu and a volcano tour of Hawaii Island. www.hawaiihelicoptertours.com

Skydiving
Adventurous couples can feel the extreme rush and euphoria of soaring high above the clouds, then falling through them – all while being able to see multiple Hawaiian Islands from the sky (on a clear day). www.skydivehawaii.com

Planetarium Shows
For a more scientific look into Hawaii’s heavens, Imiloa Astronomy Center and Bishop Museum feature 3-D and live sky shows in their planetariums throughout the day and into the evening. www.imiloahawaii.org and www.bishopmuseum.org
