Under The Sea

Darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter! While in the Hawaiian Islands, why not look under the sea for romantic adventures? Whether you’re a seasoned scuba diver or prefer to keep dry, here are a few ways Hawaii’s underwater world can help spark romance:

Whale Watching
Beginning in December, humpback whales return to the Hawaiian Islands for mating season, and male humpback whales can often be heard singing love songs in their breeding grounds. Whale watching tours offer a way for couples to experience these unique songs firsthand. www.gohawaii.com/statewide/discover/essential-hawaii/whale-watching-in-hawaii

Underwater Weddings
The Maui Ocean Center offers up their 750,000-gallon aquarium for couples that are SCUBA certified to exchange vows, while friends and family witness through the aquarium’s tunnel. The center also offers the option of an underwater proposal. www.mauioceancenter.com

Beach Weddings Hawaii offers a Scuba Dive Wedding Package for couples looking to tie the knot in an adventurous way. Located in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island, the Scuba Dive Wedding Package is a private charter boat for the wedding couple and up to eight guests. Following a traditional Hawaiian lei exchange on board, the couple then descends 30 feet below the surface to exchange their vows and rings. www.beachweddingshawaii.com

Romantic Maui Weddings offers certified divers a five-hour diving experience including a vow exchange, first kiss and even a first dance – all under water. www.justmauied.com

Scuba and Snuba Diving
Couples looking to explore underwater seascapes can charter a boat with Makena Coast Dive Charters and visit the Cathedral dive sites of Lanai. These dive sites, known as First Cathedral and Second Cathedral, are underwater lava tubes that feature abundant marine life and coral reef in their cathedral-like atmosphere. www.mauiunderwater.com

Not scuba certified? Sail Trilogy on Maui uses a patented shallow water diving system that bridges the gap between snorkeling and scuba, offering couples a great alternative to scuba in west and south Maui, Lanai’s Hulopoe Beach Park and Marine Preserve, and the protected crater of Molokini. www.sailtrilogy.com

Submarine Tours
Experience the underwater world without getting wet with Atlantis Submarines. Following a submarine tour, couples can enjoy a romantic sunset dinner cruise. The Premium Atlantis Royal Combo features a 45-minute underwater tour, followed by a steak and lobster dinner at sunset. www.atlantisadventures.com/hawaii

Beyond Hawaii – the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands
Stroll hand-in-hand to the Waikiki Aquarium and see the new marine life exhibit featuring species from the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. This exhibit features a 4,400 gallon tank and allows couples to view more than 200 fish and more than 200 pieces of coral that will eventually become a living reef, all in a wonderful indoor/outdoor setting right in Waikiki. www.waquarium.org
