  • Catch the new Broadway-inspired musical “Honu By the Sea” created and composed by Johnson Enos at The Royal Hawaiian’s Monarch Room every Wednesday and Sunday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Ronald Bright, a mainstay in Hawaii’s theater community, will direct the 14-member cast for the show’s three month run from July 4 to September 30. Guests will take a journey under the sea with Kainoa, a Waikiki Beach Boy, where he meets a honu (sea turtle) named Malia and her ocean friends who are on a mission to rescue Malia’s mother.   • Families have a new reason to visit the Honolulu Zoo (Oahu). The all-new Children’s Discovery Forest features three demonstration zones including strand vegetation, dryland mesic forest species, and Polynesian-introduced species and cultivars.   • Be a paniolo (cowboy) for a day out on Oahu’s Waianae Coast on a new Day Experience at the Historic West Oahu Riding Stables offered by E Noa Tours. Saddle up for a horseback ride to a centuries-old stone corral, followed by a hike to an ancient heiau (ancient Hawaiian shrine), and a Paniolo-style picnic lunch.   • Discover the lush windward side of Oahu on Bike Hawaii’s new hike and bike adventure. The tour includes a guided 2.25-mile moderate hike and 5-mile paved downhill bike ride where guests can explore the Koolau rainforest and a set of extinct cinder cones. For more information, visit
  • Waikiki Trolley is offering two new walking tours, “History Through the Eyes of the Queen” and “Honolulu 1941,” highlighting two important periods of Oahu’s history. The first takes visitors through the Iolani Palace neighborhood recounting the life of Queen Liliuokalani, Hawaii’s last reigning monarch, and her final years on the throne before the native government was uprooted.   • Located just minutes from the Kahului Airport, the Courtyard Maui Kahului Airport made its debut last month.   • A new brewpub and brewery Aloha Beer Co. opened last month near Sam Choy’s Breakfast, Lunch and Crab on Oahu. Brew master Dave Campbell, who also brews beer for Sam Choy’s restaurant, features seven of his exclusive beers on tap: the Aloha Lager, Aloha Red, Aloha Dark, Aloha IPA, Aloha Blonde, Steam Ship Lager and Kiawe Honey Porter.   • Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk on Oahu has added the art of yoga to its abundant list of complimentary amenities.   • Beginning in November 2012, Hawaiian Airlines will commence nonstop service to Brisbane, Australia, becoming the only U.S. carrier to service the city, a key hub for onward travel throughout the country. The thrice-weekly flights between Honolulu (Oahu) and Brisbane will launch on November 27, increasing Hawaiian’s service between Oahu and Australia to 10 flights per week with daily service already operating to Sydney, Australia’s largest city.
