HVCB PARTNERS WITH SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS TO HIGHLIGHT MAUI FOR NEW GROUP BUSINESS, SEPTEMBER 25-27
HONOLULU – Starting today, 36 meeting planners from around the country will begin a three-day conference on Maui designed to feature the Magic Isle and also demonstrate why the Hawaiian Islands are ideal for hosting meetings, conventions and incentives.
The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) partnered with Successful Meetings magazine in creating the agenda for the “Destination Hawaii” conference, September 25-27.
Following the Maui conference most of the planners will take part in three days of site tours on the island of their choice, September 28-30, with HVCB’s Island Chapter Bureaus representing Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island developing the itineraries.
“We are pleased to host meeting planners from around the country to showcase our world-class facilities on Maui and the other Hawaiian Islands, and the aloha spirit of our people,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA). “The HTA, together with the HVCB, remain committed to promoting Hawaii as a global meetings destination through conferences like Destination Hawaii’ and we look forward to capitalizing on this opportunity to grow our meetings, conventions and incentives program.”
From today through this Thursday, the meeting planners will attend site inspections of Maui resorts and meeting facilities, take part in education sessions, and conduct one-on-one meetings with representatives of resorts statewide to discuss opportunities for bringing new business to the Hawaiian Islands.
The visiting planners come from all regions of the nation and represent a wide range of corporations, associations, incentive houses, and events for groups wanting to schedule business programs. All of the planners have indicated that one or more of the Hawaiian Islands are being considered for future business opportunities, adding to the value of the Maui conference and the individual meetings with local suppliers.
“Through the balance of this week, these planners will see outstanding examples of the superb resort and meeting facilities that we offer on Maui and our other islands and how doing business in Hawaii can support their clients’ objectives,” said Michael Murray, CMP, CMM, CASE, HVCB’s vice president of sales and marketing.
“On behalf of Hawaii’s meetings industry, we greatly appreciate the support of Successful Meetings magazine in organizing this conference on Maui. I’m confident it will lead to new bookings statewide while reinforcing awareness about the diversity of Hawaii’s offerings to all types of groups,” Murray said.
With a circulation of 50,000, Successful Meetings magazine is one of the meetings industry’s most prominent and highly read publications. It serves as a resource to planners for education and ideas on how to create and execute meetings across all industries.
HVCB is contracted by the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), the state of Hawaii’s tourism agency, to provide marketing management services for the conventions, meetings and incentives market segment. HTA was established in 1998 to ensure a successful visitor industry well into the future. Its mission is to strategically manage Hawaii tourism in a sustainable manner consistent with the state of Hawaii’s economic goals, cultural values, preservation of natural resources, community desires, and visitor industry needs.
