Oahu Story Ideas

Explore Oahu's Farm to Table Cuisine

Oahu's innovative farm to table cuisine is one of the island's greatest attractions. Roy Yamaguchi, Alan Wong and George Mavrothalassitis are just a few of the state's most recognized chefs who call Oahu home. Along with 12 of their equally esteemed counterparts, these three chefs helped to develop Hawaii Regional Cuisine to showcase Hawaii's produce, fish and local products. The relationships between the farmers and the chefs have given Oahu a reputation of being a premier culinary destination.

Hosted by the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation every Saturday, the KCC Farmers' Market is the state's largest and most popular farmers' market. Here, locals and visitors can meet the farmers and food producers of Hawaii's diversified agricultural scene, through which many of the island's renowned local chefs get their ingredients. Select from a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers, beef, aqua-cultured seafood, fresh-baked breads, unique snack foods, honey, specialty seasonings, and much more.

Another popular culinary destination is the Honolulu Fish Auction. Bidding begins at 5:30 a.m., but it's worth it to wake up early and witness the excitement as chefs and buyers bid on an impressive variety of fresh fish from the Hawaiian waters. The Honolulu Fish Auction is the only fish auction between Tokyo and Maine.
