The Happiest Place in Paradise
November 3, 2011
Oahu’s tropical beauty and rich island culture is worked into every detail of Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. From authentic kapa patterns lining the hallways to a mouth-watering menu that utilizes local products and cooking methods, this resort showcases the best of Hawaiian culture, cuisine and natural beauty. Couples and families of all ages are sure to find an activity on property that peaks their interest.
In the center of this sprawling resort is Waikolohe Valley. Guests can play in the valley’s stream, relax in an inner tube and snorkel in the private lagoon that is home to hundreds of reef fish. During my visit, the weather was ideal for dip in the refreshing pool and a ride on the Volcanic Vertical waterslide.
Visits to a Disney property wouldn’t be complete without a meet-and-greet with these world-famous characters. Even the characters got into the “aloha spirit” with their warm hugs, shaka signs and aloha shirts. Of course I couldn’t resist getting my picture taken!
While the resort’s activities and accommodations blew me away, the highlight of my day was eating at ‘Ama ‘ama. The menu showcased the perfect island flavors that make Oahu's culinary scene one of the best in the world. I’ll always remember how delicious the mouth-watering kalua pork sliders, soft yet crispy sweet potato fries and decadent chocolate dessert were. Like the ending of all Disney movies, I left with a warm, fuzzy feeling and dreams of returning soon.
