Hui No‘eau's Kaluanui Estate Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Special Exhibition
Celebrate the 100th birthday of the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center's Kaluanui Estate with a visit to its Kaluanui Centennial: 10x10 exhibition, running from May 26 through July 22. For the exhibition, artists were challenged to create two-dimensinal and three-dimensional works within a defined space of 10"x10"x10". "Talk Story" and Demonstration with Visiting Kapa Artist Dalani Tanahy
Stop by and "talk story" with kapa maker Dalani Tanahy during the Kaluanui Centennial Festival and Family Day at Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center, happening July 22. Tanahy will talk about the art of crafting kapa, a cloth made from the bounded bark of the wauke (paper mulberry) plant. Introduction to Kapa Arts Workshop with Dalani Tanahy
In addition to her "talk story" and demonstration mentioned above, kapa maker Dalani Tanahy will hold an Introduction to Kapa Arts workshop at Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center on July 23. Students will learn about the history of Hawaiian kapa making, create several plant dyes, learn proper gathering methods and protocols for dye plants, and discover the various types of designs unique to Hawaiian kapa. Participants will also create their own kapa-inspired muslin bag to take home as a keepsake. Maui Ocean Center Getting Ready for Holomua Na Honu Turtle Release
Maui Ocean Center Turtle ReleaseMaui Ocean Center is preparing to bid a hui hou (farewell) to six Hawaiian green sea turtles set for release into the wild blue ocean this fall at its annual Holomua Na Honu ceremony. As part of a partnership with Sea Life Park Hawaii, the turtles arrived at Maui Ocean Center as hatchlings in 2015, and served for two years as educational ambassadors for their species. Golf Tournament to Benefit Paniaka Wetlands Restoration
