Maui Whale Festival and World Whale Day
Organized by Pacific Whale Foundation, the 2014 Maui Whale Festival takes place February 1 - March 31, "peak season" for viewing humpback whales off Maui's coast. The festival's signature event is World Whale Day, at Kalama Park, Kihei on Saturday, February 15, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This free celebration features live music, food, displays and activities. Chinese New Year is an annual tradition in Lahaina, turning Front Street into an interactive display of lion dancing. On Friday, February 7, Lahaina's celebration begins with a Chinese blessing at historic Wo Hing Temple Museum, followed by exciting lion dances that proceed south on Front Street to end at Banyan Tree Park.
