The 2014 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, a PGA Champions Tour tournament competition among all official money-event champions of the 2012 and 2013 seasons, winners of the majors since 2009, and eight professionals by invitation with 15 or more career victories, including one major, will be held January 15 to 19, 2014 at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaupulehu. Adding more meaning to his “seed to table” concept, Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa’s Executive Sous Chef Jayson Kanekoa has added a hydroponic herb garden to the grounds fronting the open-air, outdoor Hawaii Calls Restaurant & Lounge. Kanekoa uses the herbs to enhance dishes at the resort’s restaurant. In addition to the various basil plants currently growing, Kanekoa plans to grow and harvest rosemary, shiso, mint, sweet potato, and taro. More than 60 Hawaii Island coffee farms entered this year’s prestigious Kona coffee cupping competition at the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival in November. A panel of esteemed judges assessed the coffee based on factors such as fragrance, aroma, taste, aftertaste, and body. The Kona coffee cupping competition crown division winners included Hawaiian Queen Coffee (First), Heavenly Hawaiian Farms (Second), and Arianna Farms Ono Kona Coffee (Third). The Kona coffee cupping competition classic division winners included Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation (First), Mauka Meadows Kona Coffee Farm (Second), and Mauka Fire Estate (Third). The festival promotes Hawaii’s unique culture and diversity, and supports the mission of preserving, perpetuating and promoting Kona’s unique coffee heritage.
