Island of Hawaii (August 1, 2016) – To visit the island of Hawaii is to be closer than most ever get in their lifetimes to the geologic forces that created, and are still creating, our natural world. Kilauea volcano’s current lava flow, named 61G by the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, on July 26 became the first in three years to reach the coastline and is the subject of fascination for hearty hikers and local activity companies offering helicopter, land and boat tours.
